Many of us gain our love of reading as children, diving into wonderful stories and fantastic worlds. I’m thrilled to present author Kingsley Osajie, whose latest release is perfect for young readers.
Author Interview: Kingsley Osajie
Alesha: Thank you so much for joining me, Kingsley. How would you describe yourself as an author?
Kingsley: I write in many genres as led by Inspiration, Muse and Universe; but the genre that I have published is a children’s book [Cindy and Her Beautiful Bird].
Alesha: That’s great! As a parent, I’m often on the look out for entertaining books and stories for my kids. How would you explain the book to those of us who haven’t yet read it?
Kingsley: Cindy and Her Beautiful Bird is the story of a little girl called Cindy and her beautiful songbird, Amy, [and] their intimacy and challenges. Cindy’s bird (Amy) affected Amy positively. It shows how children can be attached with pets once a cordial relationship has been formed. In this story, Cindy showed us that children can have unwavering faith even if it seemed goofy, unrealistic, and an illusion! Despite all odds about the whereabouts of Cindy’s bird, she kept believing and having faith.
Alesha: Sounds like there’s a lesson or two for kids to learn and take away from the story. Well done. I’m curious, how long have you been writing, and how has the journey been?
Kingsley: I am a born writer. It has always been in me since childhood. I started writing when I was in high school. I got my start as an author by following my heart and looking up to authors such as Buchi Emecheta, Cyprian Ekwensi, Danielle Steele, Jo Leigh, Tea Obreht etc. My journey to becoming a published author was a very herculean one! In fact, I was rejected by thirteen publishers before I found an American Publisher who found my script worthy of publication even when the leading publishing company in Nigeria whom I thought would publish my book disappointed me and told me that my script did not meet their standard; but an American publisher found my book worthy. And today I am a published author. My story of how I became a published author has been published in a South African YouTube channel which you can watch via this link https://youtu.be/lFuXB62XZ2k
Alesha: Congratulations. I admire the fact that you kept going and persevered. Have there been other experiences or parts of your background that contributed to who you are as an author today?
Kingsley: Yes! Most of my inspiration comes from my life experiences, family, environment etc for example, the idea of Cindy and Her Beautiful Bird was born out of my love for children and not only that and my love for America too! When I was in College, my brother (Bright) bought an album of Mary McKee the woman who sang Try A Little Kindness. We used to play the songs that time. I still play it to date. So in that album; I noticed a track titled My Songbird–and the lyrics appealed to me. Plus the song makes me feel goosebumps and overwhelmed. So subliminally…I drew an inspiration from that track of Mary McKee song titled My Songbird.
Alesha: Sweet! I love how music inspired you. Now, as for my next question (I ask this of all my authors)…the Apocalypse is upon us, and the three authors you wish to save are…?
Kingsley: I would save Buchi Emecheta, Cyprian Ekwensi and Tea Obreht
Alesha: I’m definitely going to check them out! As for you, do you travel much? Or, where would you like to travel?
Kingsley: Ah! That would be USA (United State of America). Because I love America so much. When I was in high school; I won a book and a magazine from Guidepost. In the Guidepost book; as I began reading it I became very familiar with America as it shared stories of American people who were able to overcome their challenges and personal problems. I was really inspired by the stories I read in that Guidepost book. I would also want to see the diversity in America for myself! I mean the different ethnic groups; then visit Liberty Island, Gaia Center in Colorado, Miami Beach, Kwan Yin Temple in Hawaii, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and just tour round the United States. America is a great country and actually the most famous country in the world. No one does not hear or know the name “America.”
Alesha: That’s awesome! I would love for you to visit the U.S. (there are still parts of America that I wish to visit as well). Finally, I must ask, what would readers be surprised to know about you?
Kingsley: That I love to have lunch with Mooji and Dalai Lama.
Alesha: Fascinating. I’m sure readers will want to know about you and your books. Where can they find out more?
Kingsley: You can find me at www.kingsley-osajie.com
