I love helping readers discover new authors, especially when the author writes kick-ass fantasy. I caught up with author Michael W. Huard and interviewed him on his books, as well as some fun facts about him. Get to know him below, and pick up a copy of his latest fantasy novel!
Interview with Michael W. Huard
Alesha: Hey, Michael! Thanks for joining us. Can you tell us about your most recent book, and give us the elevator pitch for it?
Michael: [Barnabas The Wolf Chaser] His sacrifice saved his people. But now Barnabas is cursed, tainted, and with the blood of the WOLF. Can Barnabas become that man he wants to be. Can he find a new home and with it find love?
Alesha: Awesome. A cursed wolf? Sign me up! Have you always enjoyed writing fantasy books? How did you get your start?
Michael: I’ve been fantasy role playing games for 30 years. I am the gamemaster always making the stories up, and my wife kept telling me I should turn these tales into books. I finally listened!
Alesha: I love RPGs. Unfortnunately I’m the reckless one who runs in, magic ablazin’ and getting my party killed (So sorry, friends!). So, you’ve been a gamemaster, what other experiences do you bring with you into your writing career?
Michael: Writing takes a ton of discipline. I have a long history of studying martial arts in my life. With that, I am persistent and also like to think I write great fight scenes. I have been told I do!
Alesha: Fight scenes are so hard to nail down (especially if you don’t have that background). It’s great you’re able to draw from that and create exciting and accurate fight scenes for readers. Now, for my next question, I love asking this of fellow authors. If the Apocalypse is upon us, and you can only save three of your favorite authors…who would they be, and why?
Michael: J.R.R. Tolkien who I would first travel back and time and grab in a time machine, Neil Gaiman, who I’d grab via the Sandman in my dreams, and lastly, Bram Stoker. I have a deep fascination with all things vampire.
Alesha: YESSSSS!!!!! Very fitting, if I do say so myself. And what about travel? Where would you go, if you could go anywhere in the world?
Michael: That’s an interesting question. As a fantasy writer, well, I go many places. The Realms I cover are vast and full of great wonders. I’m not sure anything or anywhere could match the trips I take in my own imagination. But for sake of a place, let’s say anywhere that features old castles, those on top of great cliffs overlooking the sea!
Alesha: Nice! And finally, what would readers be surprised to learn about you?
Michael: I have a most loving and somewhat silly, French Bulldog named Sammy!
Alesha: Awww! I bet Sammy is a sweetheart. Thanks so much, Michael. Folks, if you want to follow Michael and check out his books, he’s available online at the sites below. Happy reading!
