Forgive me for this belated review of the opening episode of Sleepy Hollow’s third season, but I’m glad to be back, writing about one of my favorite shows 🙂
Well, after singing “Ding-dong, the witch is dead,” all you Ichabbie shippers might need to take a seat. It seems there’s another sorceress in town, and her name is Pandora (I suppose she’s, THE Pandora, with a very troublesome supernatural box). She’s stolen Abraham’s (the Horseman of Death’s) soul and summoned a nasty demon that is attracted to aggression and feeds on human fear.
After the season 2 finale, I thought Team Witness would be tighter than ever, but there’s been some interesting developments. Ichabod apparently walked away to “clear his head” and left Abbie hanging for nine months, only to resurface in a detention center after being apprehended by immigration. He’s got a nice hair cut, surely the first step to stepping up his game, and oh–how cute!–Abbie cut her hair as well into a fierce, choppy bob.
I was at first taken aback by Ichabod and Abbie’s circumstances, but I understand that some changes had to be made so that we won’t get bored (though I do hope we can steer away from Monster of the Week territory). Abbie’s an FBI agent, no longer Lieutenant (though she gives Ichabod the OK to still call her that), so I suspect being a federal agent will expand Abbie’s supernatural investigations beyond the physical borders of Sleepy Hollow. And it was refreshing to see Jenny return, I’ve always loved her character and wit. I wonder if Irving will ever return? I really enjoyed the banter between him and Jenny.
And can we talk about Betsy Ross? I adore the idea of a badass female spy from the past–ahem–and she’s already way more interesting than She-Who-Will-Not-Be-Named. I just hope that she remains a flashback character and doesn’t step into modern times and in the middle of our Ichabbie awesomeness.
Seriously.
Watching this episode recaptured some of the reasons why I enjoy it so much. I’m glad we could recover from some of the season 2 shenanigans. Let’s see what happens next!
